Welcome to the Ricochet 4G page.

On this page you'll find information about the interesting new type of poletop radio that has popped up around the Metricom headquarters. Is this a glimpse of Ricochet 4G? If you have an interesting Ricochet related photo that you'd like to see at the 128k Cafe, please send it to me at retiringyoung@ragingbull.com.

I felt the photo above deserved a little extra attention. It's tough to see, but what you're looking at is one of those mysterious new types of directional antenna radios (with the Breezecom equipment), and the square directional antenna is pointed directly at a WAP on the roof of the Metricom Building at 333 West Julian Street. If you look carefully you can see two small vertical white lines towards the bottom of the picture...that's the WAP. This photo was taken from the parking lot of the Compaq Center which is about a block and a half away.

Since posting a photo of one of the directional antennas (see photo at right), I've been given several theories on their purpose. But it's unanimous that these directional antennas will allow Metricom to make better use of the 2.4Ghz spectrum.
